About Us

How it started

Born in India, Sujata Rai Chowdhury has always been passionate about Jewellery, be it Fine or Fashion Jewellery. When she lived in New York a fascinating Bead Store got her inspired to start creating her own designs. After that there was no looking back. She decided to pursue her career as a Jewellery Designer and launched ‘Mila “Her Smile, Your Joy”’ in the beginning of 2016.

The Designer

Soon after relocating to Singapore from New York in 2010, Sujata received formal training from Singapore’s esteemed Jewellery Design School, JDMIS, where she completed her Diploma, which encompassed hands-on training in jewellery making and study of gemstones. She is also an Instructor of Fashion Jewellery at the School. Now based in Singapore, she designs and creates her line of jewellery using a careful selection of Natural Minerals and Organic Materials, which she personally sources from around the world, to ensure the quality of the gemstones.

Story of Mila “Her Smile, Your Joy”

People often wonder why she named her brand ‘Mila’. When it came to creating her brand name, Sujata wanted to make it very unique. She derived the name 'Mila' from her mother's name. What could be more special!

Design inspiration

Natural Minerals have always fascinated Sujata, their unmatched beauty, colour, and texture is unparalleled, and she loves to incorporate these beautiful stones in her creations. Nature offers splendid colours in abundance, which is reflected through these beautiful gems and inspires Sujata in her designs. She keeps her designs simple to bring out the natural beauty of each mineral and her love for these beautiful gemstones.

In the world of Jewellery, the varieties of designs are innumerable, the options of materials are numerous, but what matters is the beauty that lies in each creation. Looking at Sujata’s creations, her father quoted, “Don’t look at the surface, feel the hidden love”.
